Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is on a hot streak making some of the most lust worthy cars a commoner can afford. Two of which could not be any more different while costing about the same.
In the red corner the new Hellcat. It couldn't be any more American if it served you apple pie. Throwing the most powerful engine you can make in an engine bay is a great way to breath life into gracefully aging chassis.
In the other red corner the new Alfa Romeo 4C and what a pretty corner it is. This is the first time anyone in the U.S. has had !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! a chance to get an Alfa in quite some time. Being the polar opposite to the Dodge, the 4C get is power from a hotted up version of a hot hatch engine. It doesn't have a ton of power, but its carbon chassis makes up for that with its light weight.
Assuming you had $60k burning a hole in your pocket, which would you choose?

A Hellcat, but not the Challenger.

Cant argue with that choice either.

hands down the Hellcat, not even a competition from that little plucky toy car.

Hellcat with 6spd manual of course.

Not even a competition?! IMO it would be a hard decision, but I'd go 4C.

Challenger. No question about it. I don't even think the 4c is that good looking.

No manual in the Alfa will probably be a deal breaker for some.

Hellcat for 2 reasons:
1) I am a tall person (6'4"), and from what I have heard the 4C is a bit small inside
2) I am more of a fan of high power Grand Touring cars than small sports cars. (possibly because of #1 so my point might be moot).
I like the 4C! It's a beautiful car that I'm sure is a blast to drive. It's just not for me.

Matt Farah fit in the 4C (not that I'm implying he's a big guy). But I can't hate on your reasoning. There is just something nice about a big, fast GT.

it's a cool car indeed performance and looks wise. It will be tough choice for most OPPOnauts, but that 4C just doesn't do a single thing at all for me at all. Maybe later on when a higher performance or track spec version of the 4C comes out... then hellz yeah racecar!!!

I mean, it's not ugly but I don't think it's as good looking as most people seem to think either. And even if it was great looking I'd still likely go for the Hellcat.

I saw both of his one take videos on these cars. I would definitely imply he's a big guy (he flat out states it half the time)!

Well, I have driven nether, but have road in the Hellcat and spent 5 hours in the Alfa riding shotgun on some amazing roads.
Traditionally I would go with the Hellcat, It's loud, awesome sounding and makes awesome power. But I already have a large muscle car boat and as of late I have wanted a handling car more.
The Alfa is very well sorted and the speed it can handle corners is amazing. Due to my changing interest in cars, I definitely lean towards taking the Alfa.
They really are quite different cars built with a different purpose in mind, thus making this either a really hard or really easy decision. Depending on you personal driving preference of course.
But damn is the Alfa beautiful.

Hellcat. The 4C is just a fat, ugly and amazingly more impractical Elise.

Agreed. Wildly different cars for very different uses, but I also would lean 4C.

I don't buy into the Top Gear bollocks about Alfas. They are overrated especially the 4c.

Just like everyone else I'd go for the Helldoge. Faster, better looking (a car does not become instantly pretty only because it has an Alfa Romeo badge), way better built, actually DD-able, MUCH better value and it does mean burnouts. I even heard somewhere that the 4C is not even that nice to drive.

Well looks are subjective. But would you really DD a car with 700+hp? Also the reviews I've watched seem to have high praise of the Alfa, except for Chris Harris.

See there is the problem. I'm British and our reviews have been mixed. Most say it is average those who say it is good say that purely because it is a return to the Alfa of old which is a bullshit review for those who don't give a shit about Alfas.

The reviewers I like, like it. So without having driven one thats good enough for me.

The thing is: The Helldoge is POSSIBLE to DD. The 4Banger is not. The particular review that comes to mind was a head-on comparison between the 4Banger and the Supercharged Elise, because that is just the natural thing to do. The Elise literally wiped the floor with the 4C. I cannot seem to find the magazine in question anymore though.

Lol at your use of 4Banger and literally.
But the reviewers I like (Motor Trend, Matt Farah, etc.), like it. So without having driven it, thats good enough for me.

I guess that is the difference. I, as well as my go to car magazines are looking at this subject from a european perspective. To us Alfas are nothing particularly special, while you had to make do without them for two decades. I haven't driven it either, but I have sat in one. Wasn't overwhelmed to be honest, it felt cheap. I'd still play it safe and go for the Elise, over 15 years of constant improvement and the assured reliability of a Toyota engine give a secure feeling. IMO it looks better, too.

I go back and forth on this hypothetical a lot. I've seen and sat in the 4C multiple times now, worked on the Hellcat, but haven't driven either, and that's what it would come down to for me. IMO the 4C is way more of a head-turner, and I like the idea of that as opposed to a light refresh and monster engine in a 6-year-old faux-vintage design with just enough SRT trim to not be a sleeper. No manual for the 4C, but if I'm DDing the thing, maybe I'm ok with that. But who DDs an Alfa?? If I was buying, I'd lean Challenger because I'm assuming it'd have lower maintenance costs after the warranty was up. Leasing... crap, I don't think I'd want to lease either. I drove an R/T Challenger for a week and wasn't crazy about it, FWIW. All that size and such huge blindspots... not fun. But Hellcat!
Can't decide :(

The struggle is always too real.
Maybe the real answer will be the Alferi. From what I read its supposed to compete against the F-Type and that starts at $60k.
